Daniel Huntington, Portrait of Abigail Dolbeare Hinman, Oil on canvas painting, ca. 1853-1856. Abigail Dolbeare Hinman (1743-1816) the wife of Lt. E. Hinman, USN is shown attempting to shoot Benedict Arnold while New London was burning, Sept. 6, 1781. Her grandaughter posed for the painting in front of the same window and supposedly wore the dress Mrs. Hinman had on at the time of the incident. Painting framed in 18th c. Italian frame.
